April 2020
At Evergreen Retirement Village in Pakenham, we’re committed to understanding COVID-19 (Coronavirus), educating our residents, implementing additional health & safety precautions, assisting our residents to shift their lives online to virtually communicate with their loved ones and most importantly, offering support during these challenging times.
First things first, let’s understand what COVID-19 (Coronavirus) actually is, how it spreads and what the symptoms are to be alert and educated on how we can stop the spread and flatten the curve.
According to the Australian Government Department of Health’s Fact Sheet Advice for Retirement Villages, “coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause respiratory infections. These can range from the common cold to more serious diseases. COVID-19 is the disease caused by a new coronavirus (SARS-COV-2). It was first reported in December 2019 in Wuhan City in China. It has now become a global pandemic. The infection can spread from person to person through:
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to colds and influenza and can include:
People living with dementia or some form of cognitive impairment may not be able to describe their symptoms or express pain or discomfort.”
At Evergreen, we want to ensure our residents are taken care of the right way whilst adhering to the health precautions advised by the Government. Residents can continue their busy, active life they’re used with exercising by practicing social distancing of 1.5 meters from others. Residents can also take it easy and enjoy a slower pace with technology or hand-written letters to communicate with their loved ones.
We’re advising our residents to wash their hands frequently, practice social distancing and self-isolation, and monitor any potential symptoms.
In our village, every resident has access to their own beautiful private garden, designer bathrooms and kitchens, spacious living areas, and state-of-the-art climate control to practice social distancing as comfortably as possible.
Life, as we know it, has shifted online for the foreseeable future and we’re ensuring that all of our residents are brought up to speed in the digital age to access essential services and stay in contact with loved ones. Coronavirus has affected retirement homes the hardest as our residents are the most at-risk from contracting the virus and the self-isolation required to flatten the curve can be lonely and we’re doing everything we can here to ensure this challenging time is as smooth as possible.
Our residents usually enjoy our Clubhouse with their affordable retirement home and interacting with their neighbours as part of our thriving, tightknit retirement community and we know we will get through this together and return to our activities when it’s safe enough to do so. We ask for our resident’s families to understand that the social distancing required is for their safety and to prevent further spread as retirement communities can become hotspots very quickly and impact many people at once.. It’s difficult to not see family and we understand that and we’re committed to ensuring that visits can be made online through video conferencing.
In addition to always being available on-site, Evergreen Retirement Village Pakenham is proud to be a part of the Chain Group of Companies including Genbridge.
Genbridge has brought together some of Australia’s leading Health, Retirement and Aged Care professionals. These professionals are continuously being updated with the latest COVID-19 (Coronavirus) news. They are remaining committed to making our retirement village in Melbourne resident’s experience as safe, seamless and enjoyable as possible. In partnership, they have been instrumental in fostering the friendly and active village atmosphere at Evergreen and as an additional line of support during this time.
It’s a difficult time for everyone, especially those separated from their loved ones, and we’re committed to doing our part and trying to assist any way we can.
Kind regards,
