“Laughter is the best medicine” is a phrase we’ve all heard. Funnily enough, it is! There have been many studies conducted proving that laughter has significant benefits for our health and well-being. Let’s have a look at how an enthusiastic chuckle can help us live better lives.

Laughter makes you feel happier

Researchers from the University of Turku, Aalto University and the University of Oxford found that laughter releases endorphins. These are the bodies ‘feel-good’ chemicals that are usually released after a workout. However, a good giggle can do the same thing, boosting your happiness and energy levels.

Others will be more inclined to be around you if you are laughing regularly

Laughter is a way to connect with others. A study performed in 2010 showed that laughter can be perceived as goodwill by those around you. So, if you are happy and laughing, it will be easier for you to communicate with others and make new friends.

Your whole body becomes relaxed when you laugh

What is important to remember is that your whole body becomes relaxed after a good laugh. If you think back to times that you had a good laugh, you can probably remember a sigh at the end of this laugh. This is because your whole body is taking a break from all the stiffness and stress from the day. A hearty laugh is like a mini massage that you can enjoy as many times as you’d like throughout the day.

Anxiety can be reduced by laughter

If you find yourself in a state of high anxiety, laughter can help you diffuse this feeling. It blocks the fight-or-flight feeling that commonly accompanies anxiety. Watching a funny video on YouTube or catching up on some giggles over tea with friends can help you reduce feelings of anxiety and get back to your day.

The more you laugh, the better you will feel. It is a great idea to create some daily habits that will help you remember to laugh at least once a day.

Happy chuckling!

Yours sincerely,
